The Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance (IMA) of Durham and Vicinity is a fellowship of pastors and ministers from various denominations within the city of Durham and surrounding counties. The IMA’s mission is to collectively promote a collaborative approach to addressing issues that plague our community. I am honored and humbled to have been elected to lead this ministerial group for the next 3 years.
The IMA has allowed me to see the level of commitment that our clergy have not only to the churches we serve but also the concern that we have for our community as a whole. Because this is an interdenominational organization, there are many experiences and approaches from which we can draw. The diversity of denominations allows us to serve a diverse community and remain true to our call and true to the plight of our community.
I encourage pastors and ministers in the area to come and join this body of clergy. Membership in this body will expose you to relevant information concerning politics, social issues, education, community awareness and fellowship among clergy. Being a part of this organization has opened my eyes to the vast responsibility of preachers to not only congregations but to the community as well. We have served as a voice for those who often felt they were not heard and we have championed causes that were critical to the strength and stability of our community. We have taken a stand for the rights of the citizens of Durham. All of which we continue and will continue to do knowing that we have been called to lead and we have been called to serve.
It is my desire to champion the cause of Education. Education is crucial to the success of our youth and must be a priority. We will work with those in the community, including the Durham Public School Board, to ensure that our schools are meeting the educational objectives that will prepare our children for the future. It is my belief that an investment in education is an investment in our future.
Other areas of interest include mentorship programs, relevant social concerns and the strength of the church in our daily lives. We want to make Durham an even greater place to live with a strong coalition of ministers who will work together to ensure that the voice of the congregants of Durham is represented. There is much work to be done and we are committed to meeting the needs of this community. Together we can make a difference.
